Application Monitoring — Sentry, LogRocket, and Knowing When Things Break
Set up error tracking and session monitoring so you find out about bugs before your users complain.
Here's a question that separates hobby projects from real applications: when something breaks in production, how do you find out?
Option A: A user emails you. "Hey, the checkout page doesn't work." You ask what browser they're using, what they clicked, whether they can send a screenshot. Three email exchanges later, you still can't reproduce it.
Option B: Your monitoring tool sends you an alert at 2:14 PM: "TypeError: Cannot read property 'email' of undefined in CheckoutForm.tsx line 47. Affected 23 users in the last 10 minutes. Stack trace attached." You open the link, see the exact line of code, fix it, deploy, and the alert resolves itself.
Application monitoring gives you Option B. And once you have it, you'll wonder how you ever shipped software without it.
